He likes the hard, chewy candy, Pocahontas likes the soft, melt in your mouth candy.

Since regular fruits and vegetables are not a priority for Pocahontas (Yeck, tastes bad!!!!), and knows that she needs some in her diet, she compromised with the candy fruit slices and gummy peach rings. And of course candy corn to round out the vegetable servings. We are all set!

While keeping in mind the hot weather our snacks and trail mix may encounter as they sit in hot post offices, we kept the chocolate treats to a minimum. No stocking up on Snickers for us! Oh no, PayDay candy bars is the only way to go. These give us the much needed carbs and protein without melting all over everything. We most likely will grab some chocolate on the way out of towns, I mean, who wouldn't!

Shopping at Costco for snacks

Some of our lunch food will consist of Pepperoni sticks,* tuna & chicken salad on crackers and the Sweet and Salty trail bars by Nature Valley. The rest of our lunch will be supplemented by those gems we find in the small stores along the way. Possibilities are peanut butter, tortillas, fresh fruit (Legasorus), and bagels (Pocahontas). A ton of ice cream will also be consumed in towns.

We have all of our breakfast cereal packaged up
and awaiting the "filling of the resupply boxes", which we will start today. Legasorus made a video of packaging up our breakfasts, and if he ever gets it edited, we will include it here.

All of our breakfasts and trail mix ingredients were purchased in bulk at WinCo.

*OOPS! Just one small problem popped up as we were packing our first resupply box. An opened package of pepperoni sticks started to develop mold. Yeeeew! So if anyone thought this would be a good idea, strike it off your list. Buy pepperoni as you go!!!

I just wanted to stop by and say hello. You have a great blog. I remember when I first noticed your blog, the timer read over 100 days; now it is approaching 50 days. Pretty exciting.

I am the older half of a married couple who will be joining you on the PCT this year. We have a tentative start date but are monitoring the snow levels in the Sierra before we finally decide when we will depart. So far so good. Hoping for a low snow year.

Best wishes for your PCT hike. We hiked the PCT in 06 and absolutely loved your home state of Oregon. We hope to make it at least that far this time around and bump into the two of you somewhere along the trail.

Enjoyed the YouTube vids. Funny guy.

    1. Larry and Sandy, or is it Will and Annie? Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes, the countdown is really moving now. It's a couple of days off, but that will be remedied when we start the countup clock. We have 7 weeks from today exactly until we board the train for San Diego.

We are also watching the weather, my initial feelings was that the snow levels are going to be similar to '99, which was very doable. I may be wrong, have been before.

We wish you the best also on your hike, and sincerely hope to meet you, if not on the trail, then at Kickoff.

      Caution: Adventure Ahead!
