As we were then

A lot has changed in the past 14 years. We have gone from 75lb external frame packs, to 14lb internal frame packs. We are now using hiking poles instead of hiking sticks, and of course we are now 14 years older. Pochahontas will turn 50 one month prior to starting, and Legasorus is now 56. Our expectations have also changed somewhat as we face this daunting challenge for a second time. Back in 1999, we viewed this thru hike as an opportunity to camp for 5 months. With visions of campfires every night, we were packing enough fire starters to last a year. Now we are viewing this thru hike as an odyssey where we will have to make our miles each day, with little time for campfires at night as we fall exhausted into our sleeping bags. We have accepted this challenge again, a little smarter this time, with a lot of studying of what we did wrong last time, and learning from other hikers throughout the years.
